I’m a PA student who has extensive experience on the patient end of things, but admittedly not much yet on the provider side. Seven unrelated surgeries and a tumultuous cruise through the mental health system have taught me a lot about medicine. Ok, let’s face it – I was a frequent-flier, anxious disaster, pain-in-the-neck, hypochondriac, “Oh, please tell me it’s not HER again!!” patient. I’m sure my doc of the time would agree whole-heartedly. Even if I’ve “seen the light” so to speak, it’s still embarrassing… but that’s the facts. Anyway, seven years of working various positions in health care has taught me a bit about the practice of medicine. School, experience, and reading lots of things online are teaching me much more.
I am now in my second year of PA school, living in a tiny studio with my cat, about 2 hours outside of New York City. Most of what you’ll find here are my thoughts as I proceed through my clinical rotations. I’ll also post some random stuff that has nothing to do with PA school and medicine. Usually it’s stuff I think is funny… I hope you will find it entertaining too.
If you’re not entirely bored, here are some random facts about me:
- I play the bassoon. Part of me still wants to be a professional bassoonist when I grow up. (Seriously!) And if you’re looking for a bassoonist, give me a jingle. haha
- I love cooking, but I’ll admit that I’ve had so many hilariously terrible products in the past I’ve become a bit timid lately.
- I struggle with time and money management.
- I’m a closet trekkie, but for the original series only. I think it’s because of the kitsch factor.
- I HATE shopping for clothes. I could give probably thirty reasons of why I’d rather scrub a gas station toilet than look for a pair of jeans.
- I’m good at losing weight. I’m not so good at keeping it off. *sigh*
- I need money. Donations gladly accepted.
- I have ‘blogged’ continuously since late 2003… that’s six years! Wow!
Happy reading!
